Corporal Meiss – Dive Guide

Corporal Meiss…probably should be known as the dive site you miss if you’re only going as far as Windsock and the one you’ll otherwise just ‘drive past’ on your way to the other southern dive sites.  We often see few or no dive pickup trucks parked here so it seems to us as if most people miss out, which is a real shame.  Sure, it’s not one of the most talked about dive sites in Bonaire but we like it for being that overlooked gem.  It has nice corals and decent variety of aquatic life.  We wanted to make sure it is one of our earlier posts (4th) covering Bonaire dive sites.

Want to see why?  You can view footage from one of our dives here on our Youtube channel.

Corporal Meiss Site Location

It’s South of Windsock.  Drive past the airport and AquaVilla but don’t go as far as Belnem and look for the yellow dive site markings.  Parking is straightforward here – simply pull over, stopping on the side of the road and ideally in front of one of the paths to the shoreline.

Shore Entry

Entry at Corporal Meiss is typically undertaken from somewhere between the pinpointed beach and to the South up to the wall of the first house. There are well trodden paths to the beach entry however, making that overall easiest. We dive from the marked trees, leaving our landlubber family members on a nice picnic spot. Note that this is pretty much almost directly under the flightpath for aircraft. The airport is not busy, so this can be a novel place to hang about.

Routing

There is nothing particularly difficult about the routing to this reef so swim out to the drop off or directly to the mooring, which is at 25ft.  For good depths there is plenty to see with the best IMHO with wiggle room either side of 60ft and all the way up back up to 25ft for your nice return swim.  Bear in mind that if you are starting on the beach, a northbound routing will see your turning point well within the windsock dive site.
