One of our favorite excursions from AquaVilla is a trip to the Cadushy Distillery (link). This is the only distillery on Bonaire. They produce island chain themed liqueurs and some seriously good spirits.
Visiting is worthwhile for sampling the goods (although remember not to drink and drive!) and the tour of their operations, which is interesting and doesn’t take a lot of time. While they won’t tell you all their secrets you can still take away the most worthy of prizes, which in our opinion is the ‘Cadushy of Bonaire’ themed drink. Made from the local Cacti this is simply yummy!
The spoils of such a trip – if like us you can’t wait to take them home – can be enjoyed right on the AquaVilla patio overlooking the lagoon and what better recommendation for this than the Cadushy website:
Cadushy of Bonaire Liqueur is best served cold (41°F / 5ºC)….on a tranquil terrace near the Caribbean sea after a long day of exploring Bonaire
We agree. It’s as if they wrote it just for AquaVilla. If you time this right you can enjoy the drink while looking out for turtles, sometimes even watching the eagle rays break the surface of the water as they hunt.
Perhaps if you are to stay at AquaVilla and take a trip to Cadushy then this could be you…
…but only if you book it.
Now for those who didn’t go (or those who did but drank the lot on the patio) you might be interested in knowing that in addition to simply visiting twice there is a good stock of products in the airport duty free shop.
Getting to Cadushy Distillery
Cadushy Distillery is situated in Rincon. Given that it is well signposted you can’t really miss it – just drive through the town and take note of the signs.
At the time of writing they are open Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
